Despite everything, I still believe people are really good at heart…

— Anne frank

Tell us a little bit about yourself and how you got to where you are today at Guardian.

From the very start of classes at Concordia College, I fell in love with communications. I was incredibly blessed to have a skilled PR professional hire and mentor me early on in my career. I was even more fortunate to be hired by Mark DeMoss and work at his firm for nearly a decade. Most days, I’m still in awe that I continue to have the opportunity to do what I do at Guardian. I have always focused my career on serving nonprofits, and I love to work with organizations advancing good in the world.

What is your favorite brand and why?

Right now, with more and more products being shipped to our homes, I’m really interested in brands that do packaging well. It takes a product to the next level of excellence and completes a brand story, especially when you see thoughtfully designed brand visuals and attention to detail. It communicates commitment. One of my favorite brands that does this well is Four Sigmatic. Every time I see that red box sitting on my front door, I get a Pavlov response of joy.

What is one thing you are excited about right now?

I am currently laser-focused on helping organizations have clear and consistent messaging and stories across all channels of communication. Brands that take a big picture, strategic approach—and understand that every channel can be leveraged to tell a story—are miles ahead. This understanding of message saturation is pretty key to effective communications. Whether someone interacts with your brand on social media, on your website, at an event or in a media interview, the impression of your brand should generally be the same.

What is one quote you live by?

One of my favorite quotes since I was young is by Anne Frank.

“Despite everything, I still believe people are really good at heart…”

Anne Frank was impactful to me as a kid. I was in awe of her positive attitude amidst the tragic situation she faced. I have always treasured this quote because even though we are all sinful as humans, I still believe in the good of people and aim to stay optimistic.

What is your favorite part about working at Guardian?

The people! We have a tight-knit staff of extremely high-performing professionals. I also love getting to know clients and interacting with them. I have been able to create some long-lasting relationships with clients we work with, which I treasure and love. Not only do we get to advance the Kingdom of God, but we get to work with some incredible human beings.

Tell us about a leader who inspires you.

A leader who inspires me is Vani Hari, also known as the Food Babe. I have been following her for years, and I really love how she took a passion project and turned it into advocacy activation and a company. You can probably sense a theme here, but I love anything health and wellness related. Vani Hari educated herself on chemicals in our food system and has been working for years to change laws and advocate for better food that is not filled with artificial ingredients. Her tireless quest to help our children have better food has inspired me and educated me. When she launched Truvani, I immediately began purchasing her products because I already trusted her.

What must you do every day to stay sharp, professionally?

To feed our professional minds, we must do things that bring us joy and refresh us. Sometimes the most effective practice is to take time to just sit and think. Being able to create space without distraction or interruption allows me to noodle on the big picture and come up with new ideas. Sometimes this happens when reading the news, washing dishes, running or when I’m in prayer. Pulling myself out of the details and tasks of the day is crucial. Though sometimes, when all else fails, a cup of coffee provides that quick jolt of energy and inspiration I need!
